Payne Brown
By ADCOLOR September 4, 2020 |Payne Brown is the President of THINK450, the licensing arm of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA). In this role, Mr. Brown is responsible for providing strategic leadership, revenue management and generation opportunities for the organization.
Mr. Brown was previously Managing Partner at Econet Media Partners (EMP), where he focused on investing in and licensing content for distribution on the African continent. Prior to this he was Managing Director at Highbridge Principal Strategies (HPS) an alternative investment management organization that manages approximately $50 billion in capital. During his tenure there he led the firms investment into REVOLT TV, a multimedia platform founded by Sean “Diddy” Combs. In 2014, while still balancing many of his duties at Highbridge, Mr. Brown served as the Chief of Staff to Dick Parsons, the interim “owner” of the Los Angeles Clippers. During this time, Mr. Brown was responsible for the day to day operations of the Clipper organization. Mr. Brown and Mr. Parsons successfully transitioned the team to its new owner, Steve Balmer for a then record purchase price of $2 billion.
Before joining HPS in 2012, Mr. Brown was Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and a corporate officer at Comcast Corporation. During his tenure at Comcast, Mr. Brown first oversaw labor relations and served as a lead negotiator in numerous labor contract negotiations. Mr. Brown transitioned to programming and external affairs roles where he advised diverse and independent network launches, launched multicultural and multiplatform programming initiatives and led multicultural target marketing diversity initiatives and corporate public affairs strategies.Most notably, Mr. Brown served as a strategic advisor to Comcast senior leadership, crisis manager, and negotiations expert during Comcast Corporations acquisition of NBCUniversal (2009-2011), helping to lead the company through FCC regulatory hearings and crafting voluntary public diversity commitments for the African American, Hispanic, and Asian American communities. The commitments have been praised for their impact on increasing diverse media ownership.
Mr. Brown has also held a long-term, hands-on interest in media production and film with his role as an executive producer for HBOs The Blacklist: Volume One, Volume Two and Volume Three documentaries and as an associate producer for HBOs The Latino List: Exploring the Meaning of Latino in the 21st Century (2014).
Mr. Brown received his J.D. degree from George Washington University and a B.S. in Management from Purdue University. He is the father of two children, Cole and Faith.
